Peru: Telefonica Multimedia to provide cable Internet services.

Telefonica's subsidiary Telefonica Multimedia will invest US$13mil over a3-year term to provide cable Internet services (CableNet) in Peru. The newservice will be launched in Lima first. Telefonica Multimedia has alreadyinvested US$5mil so far this year, while the remaining US$8mil will be spentover the next 2 years. The subsidiary aims to reach 10,000 CableNet clientsby the end of 2001. At present there are 380,000 cable television users inPeru, of which 340,000 are Cable Magico's.
