Brazil: Corning Cable acquires Cook Eletric.

CCS (Corning Cable Systems) acquired Cook Eletric, a producer of components for telecoms external networks for US$2.25mil. This is the second invesment of CCS in a Brazilian optical networks company. The first was the acquisition of Ficap Optel, optical cable producer in 1999. The company plans to expand Cook " plant current of 6.000 square metres to start a domestic production. The Brazilian plant will supplythe Latin American countries where CCS did not operate. The invesment will be of US$10mil until 2004 aiming to increase the turnover in Brazil from the current US$14mil to US$100mil within four years.
