Brazil: Enron, Duke and El Paso to set up operations of thermal.

The representatives of Enron, El Paso and Duke Energy will set up operations of four thermal electric power facilities in 2001 with 1.235MW: the Rio de Janeiro based Rio Merchan and Macae Merchant with 355MW and 700MW respectively, Corumba (Mato Grosso do Sul) with 90MW and Porto Suarez (Bolivia) with 90MW. Besides these four new facilities other eleven will be set up in 2001 amounting to 2.757MW. The projects are in charge of Petrobras, Gerasul, TotalFina, Maruveni, Duke, Enronand El Paso. According to APME (Associacao Brasileira dos Pequenos e Medios Produtores de Energia) there are 100 projects for the implementation of 100 small sized hydroelectric power facilities with a capacity for 1.200 MW in several Brazilian regions.
