Brazil: CSN cuts logistics costs.

The Brazilian steel mill CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional) reduced its logistics costs by 50% over the last four years, from US$280mil to US$140mil through a restructuring program and a centralized management model operating through an integrated system. In 1998 the company created the Diretoria de Logistica e Suprimentos which absorbed all the operations made coordinating all the supply chain as well as the production shipping. In September 2000 CSN implemented the Programa de Gerenciameto de Risco coordinated by Pamcary reducing the robbery of cargo. In 2000 first half the number of robberies increased by 200% if compared to equal period of 1999.
