Brazil: Ferteco to double production of pellets.

Ferteco Mineracao controlled by Thyssen Krupp Stahl is to construct a second line for the iron pellet in Minas Gerais, a investment of US$150mil. The new project will double the company" pellet production currently of 4.5mil m tons per year. The new investment if part of Thyssen strategy of strenghtening its subsidiary operations in the international market. The company is being supported by UBS Warburg and Smith Barney in an evaluation process which may result on the Ferteco" control sale or association with an strategical partner. The goal is to enhance the company, third major of Brazil behind Caemi and CVRD(Companhia Vale do Rio Doce). Ferteco might end 2000 with a production of 25mil m /tons of iron ore an exports of 20mil m tons.
