Brazil: Lego phases out Brazilian unit.
South American Business Information, December, 2000
Lego Brasil is to phase out its plant in the country. The company had phased out its Manaus-based unit three years ago. Lego started importing its products but the import tax of 28% plus 10% of excise tax harmed its business. The company is currently seeking for a dealer in Brazil aiming to keep its 3% stake in the market. Lego is also phasing out its Argentinean and Chilean units.
