Brazil: Light now holds 90% in Norte Fluminense plant.

Power company Light, controlled by Electricite de France (EDF), finished purchasing Cerj's, Escelsa's and Eletrobras' interests in the Norte Fluminense thermoelectric power plant situated in the State of Rio de Janeiro. With the deal, which involved investments of R$40mil, Light held 90% of the plant's stocks - the remainder is held by Petrobras. Norte Fluminense has already been licensed by the local environmental commission Feema and may now start to be erected. It is to start up by the end of 2003. It will be fired with natural gas to produce 771 MW. Light, which supplies 3.4mil clients in Rio de Janeiro, generates only 14.2% of the energy it distributes.
