Brazil, Jul 30, 2001

The Brazilian telecommunications equipment industry is slowing down. The industry operated at its fully capacity in 2001" first half to supply the phone carriers intending to advance the goals established by Anatel (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes). Companies as Ericsson, Nortel, Alcatel, Lucent and NEC are waiting on the strategies to be adopted by the carriers. Brasil Telecom, for instance, gave up advancing its goals and harmed Ericsson. On the other hand, Nokia made a US$680mil contract with Telemar to implement its SMP network.
