Brazil, Aug 23, 2001
Telefonica is announcing that it will have met its requirements for the provision of telephone service by September 30, making it the first Brazilian phone company to comply with the government requirements ahead of schedule. With this, the company hopes to get through the red tape and begin offering national coverage right from the start of the opening of the phone market in January 2002. The meeting of the requirements has to be verified, and there are still some areas, such as attending to installation requests within two weeks and making repairs within certain time periods, that have yet to attain their goals.
