Chile: Telefonica CTC signs contract with IBM de Chile.

IBM de Chile and Telefonica CTC Chile signed a contract for the operation, support and maintenance of Telefonica's systems network infrastructure. The contract is for US$83.7mil for a five-year period. Telefonica initiated the contracting process in October 2000, along with IBM, EDF and Cap Gimini which all participated in the process. Telefonica expects that the new contract will bring savings of more than US$50mil, with lower service expenses and lower investment costs. IBM de Chile will provide the services and technological infrastructure needed to support the operations of Telefonica's information systems and billing systems.
