Next December 20 is the deadline to submit tender offers for mining company Disputada de las Condes' assets. Antofagasta Plc., owned by the Luksic group, is interested in obtaining the El Soldado and Los Bronces mines and the Chagres smelting unit. Other companies to submit offers are Codelco, BHP Billiton, the Brazilian company Compania Vale do Rio Doce and the conglomerate formed by Phelps Dodge, Glencorp and Sumitomo Metal. Anglo American and Rio Tinto are likely to drop out of the process. Currently Disputada de las Condes is undertaking the expansion of Los Bronces mine in order to increase its production by 60.000mtpy of fine copper, with a US$200mil investment.
