Eletronet to construct US$330mil optical cable network.

Eletronet (51% AES and 49% Eletrobras) will complete construction of its US$330mil, 16,000 kilometer optical cable telecommunications network. The company has contracts withTelemar and Telefonica, TIM, AT&T and Vesper. Eletronet expects this list to grow as the telephone companies are restricting their investments and are not building their own networks. The company has had to reduce its income projections and the original size of the network in light of the reduction in demand for telecommunications services, but intends to begin making profits this year.
