Telemar to begin cell phone service soon.

Telemar is about to finally receive its licence to offer its Oi cell phone service from Anatel (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes). The company says that if it had known that the process was gong to take so long, it would not have entered the process in the first place. The company invested R$11bil last year in meeting the service requirements which are a precondition for the new licence. The company is also preparing for legal battles with Embratel and Intelig, as its entry into the long distance market represents increased competition for them.
