Philips invests in its medical equipment division.

The Dutch company Philips invested US$5.5bil to acquire five diagnostic equipment plants over the past three years: Agilent Technologies (US$1.8bil), Adac Laboratories (US$426mil), Medquist (US$1.2bil), Marconi Medical (US$1.1bil) and ATL Ultrasound (US$430mil). Its medical equipment division turns over US$120mil or 12% of the US$1bil total income posted over 2001 in Brazil. Philips increased its market share in the ultrasound segment, which accounts for 25% of the medical equipment market in Brazil, through the acquisition of ATL Ultrasound. Besides the equipment, a joint-venture with SHL Telemedicine allowed Philips to create an exams management system. The company is also investing US$500,000 to nationalize a X-ray equipment production...
