The Japanese company KDDI has recently sold off its stake in the cellular phones operator Global Telecom but does not plan to leave Brazil. In 1998, KDDI, which also played under Daimi do Brasil, acquired 76% of B band concession in cellular phones in the states of Parana and Santa Catarina. In Dec 2002, the group sold it to PT (Portugal Telecom). It changed its focus from telecommunications to Internet and related services. Over the past year, the company expanded investments in the country and demanded the Brazilian regulatory agency for telecom segment ANATEL (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes) licenses to offer data transmission services to the corporate market.
