Perusat expands long distance service into Peru's provinces.

Mr. Mario Navarro, general manager of Perusat, a subsidiary of the US Southern Cross telecommunications company, says that the Peruvian long distance telephone market has not yet reached the expected level of competition because Telefonica del Peru still has a 60% share, and the ratio of outgoing to incoming calls is 9 to 1, when it should be around 3 to 1. This will change when the price of outgoing calls drops. There are currently 25 long-distance telephone operators operating in Peru, and none of them should have a share greater then 25%, he adds.
