LG Electronics estimates personal computers to have a 4,6% penetration in Peru, while 1.21mil operating PCs are uses in schools, corporations, the public administration etc. Sales of computer monitors are expected to increase by 20% in 2003 pushed by high demand and lower prices. Over Jan - June 2003 imports were 142,000 units 39% up than equal period in 2002 (102,000 units). Imports usually increase over July - December, and the 2003 period is to end with imports of 320,000 nits above the 250,000 imported in 2002. Over the last years prices dropped by 10% and are to reduce further 4% - 5% with the incorporation of Peru into the Mercosur trade block and less tariffs charged by the customs.
