Molinos Rio de la Plata, controlled by Perez Companc, is engaged in a strategy to firm its presence in the food processing market of Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Southern Brazil. The company emerged quickly from the monetary crisis of 2002, and has been increasing sales, but profit margins are shrinking. Molinos' strongholds are branded products distributed in the Argentinean market, and processing and exports of soybeans & derivatives from its plant at San Lorenzo port terminal. Recently Molinos announced investments of US$80mil to set up a soybeans processing complex, and other US$10mil to expand a pasta plant.
