The Brazilian division of Citibank has introduced the digital signature system directed at exchange contracts. GKN Automotive and Alcoa Aluminio have already adopted the technology, which reduces the costs with printing and transportation of documents and avoids robberies and losses. According to the Central Bank of Brasil, the digital signature will only concern exchange contracts but market sources expect to use the system in derivative and credit contracts soon. Citibank estimates that 90% of the 700 corporate clients will use the technology within six months. The company predicts a 15% increase in transactions over the current US$3bil per month.
