According to a report from the bank BPI (Banco Portugues de Investimentos), the possible acquisition of the Minas Gerais mobile phone operator Telemig Celular by Vivo, a joint venture between Telefonica and Portugal Telecom, may be a good business since Vivo does not operate in Minas Gerais state yet. Telemig is controlled by the bank Opportunity but there are rumors about its possible acquisition since it canceled the migration to GSM technology, concerning investments of Euro$100mil. Vivo and Telemig operate CDMA services. Meanwhile Vivo is currently active in Minas Gerais through a roaming contract signed with Telemig Celular, which owns 2.5mil subscribers.
