Telefonica and Telecom Italia put claims against government on hold.

The Argentinean subsidiary of Telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications group, and Telecom Italia, the Italian telecommunications group which is the largest individual shareholder in Telecom Argentina, have temporarily suspended the petitions they filed against the Argentinean government with ICSID, the international centre for the settlement of investment disputes. Telefonica has said that it has put its claims on hold until October 2004 in order not to jeopardize the already difficult negotiations between the central government and the IMF (International Monetary Fund).
