Canadian financial reports scheduled to be released today include the March manufacturing report and March major wage settlements. As well, the Bank of Canada will release the details of its upcoming May 25 T-bill auction.

Canadian manufacturers' shipments rose 2.0% in March from February, Statistics Canada said today. Inventories rose 0.1% on the month. That gives an inventories-to-shipments ratio of 1.25 in March compared with 1.27 in February. Unfilled orders fell 0.3% on the month, while new orders fell 2.3%. The data were in- line with analysts' expectations ranging between a 1.0% to 2.5% rise in shipments.

The Canadian dollar was trading as of 8:22 CT, at $0.6852 cents US.
