"GHOST SHIP" DROPPED OFF HUMAN CARGO UNDETECTED
A boatload of illegal migrants from China arrived off the west coast and slipped into Canada undetected weeks before three other smugglers' ships carrying a total of 450 passengers were intercepted, the RCMP confirmed.
Police said yesterday they believe all four freighters are connected in a sophisticated smuggling scheme run by organized criminals.
They say the mystery boat -- initially reported as an empty "ghost ship" adrift off the west coast of the Queen Charlotte Islands on July 7 -- unloaded its human cargo into smaller boats and then sank.
