AIR CANADA ANNOUNCES OFFER TO BLOCK ONEX BID
Now the fur should really start to fly.
Air Canada said today it has teamed up with its global partners on a competing offer against Onex's Corp.'s $1.8-billion bid to buy the airline and merge it with Canadian Airlines.
Robert Milton, Air Canada's president and chief executive, said today that Lufthansa and United Airlines, backed by CIBC, will make a C$930-million bid for 35% of Air Canada.
In addition, the Montreal carrier will offer to buy Canadian Airlines and operate the Calgary airline as a separate company. (Canadian Press)
