NOVEMBER JOBLESS RATE HIGHEST IN 2 YEARS

OTTAWA An increase in the number of people looking for work

last month pushed the unemployment rate for November up to 7.5% from 7.3% in October, Statistics Canada said today. That is Canda's highest rate in more than two years, the agency added.

Ontario's rate rose to 6.8%, up 0.2% from last month.

The overall number of jobs available increased in November, despite large losses in manufacturing and transportation. Toronto's rate was unchanged at 6.6%.

However, the increase in employment was absorbed by the rise in the number of job-seekers.

And the general trend toward a weaker employment picture seen in previous months continued...
