The Canadian dollar was trading at a stronger level late Wednesday in activity described as thin. Some of the strength in the Canadian dollar reflected the advances posted by crude oil values on the global market Wednesday, market watchers said.
The Canadian currency in the late afternoon was quoted at C$1.2370 or 80.84 US cents. This compares with Tuesday's late North American quote of C$1.2431 or 80.44 US cents.
Adding to the strength in the Canadian dollar were concerns in the US over layoffs. There were ideas that layoff notices by US corporation surged 35% in June from the May level, analysts said.
