WINNIPEG, MB, Apr 07, 2006 (Resource News International via COMTEX) -- The following is a quick glimpse of the news making the headlines in Canada.

MANITOBA'S RED RIVER EXPECTED TO RISE HIGHER

WINNIPEG - Manitoba's Red River is rising quickly and is now expected to reach levels higher than originally anticipated.

The river is expected to hit 20.4 feet by Thursday night or early Friday, which would bring it just below the level of Manitoba's fourth worst flood in 1996, CTV Winnipeg's Rachel Lagace reported.

The early crest of the Red River in Winnipeg has put 172 properties at risk of flooding. The city has issued an alert for those owners to sandbag their properties.
