WINNIPEG, MB, Sep 28, 2007 (Resource News International via COMTEX) -- The Canadian dollar was trading at a firmer level versus the US dollar at mid- session on Friday. Broad-based US dollar weakness caused the Canadian dollar to rise above par and break out of the narrow range it had recently traded in, market watchers said.

At 11:22 CDT the Canadian dollar was trading at 100.44 US cents or C$0.9956, which compares with an early Friday morning quote of 100.41 US cents or C$0.9959, and Thursday's North American settlement of 99.56 US cents or C$1.0014.

Gains in gold prices also contributed to the firmness of the resource-based Canadian currency.
