WINNIPEG, MB, Mar 14, 2008 (Resource News International via COMTEX) -- The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) was sharply lower at the close of Friday's North American trading session. News that JPMorgan Chase & Co. and the US Federal Reserve Bank of New York stepped in with emergency funds to keep beleaguered investment bank Bear Stearns Cos. (BSC) afloat set off a fresh round of concern regarding the US credit crisis, causing North American equity markets to tumble, market watchers said.

On Friday, the TSX composite index fell 190.66 points or 1.42 per cent to 13,252.84.
