FCC and SBC Enter into Consent Decree.(Federal Communications Commission, SBC Communications, Inc.)(Brief Article)

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released an order adopting a consent decree between the FCC and SBC Communications, Inc. The action terminates certain enforcement proceedings pending before the Commission concerning compliance, by SBC's affiliates, Ameritech Corp. and SecurityLink, with section 275 of the Communications Act of 1934.
Under the consent decree the FCC announced, SBC Communications Inc. will either enter an agreement by Feb. 9, 2001, to sell SecurityLink from Ameritech, an indirect subsidiary of SBC, or pay $1million to the U.S. government. The consent decree stems from allegations of violations of the 1996 Telecommunications Act by Ameritech.
