Best known for its mainframe, mini and personal computers and more recently for its systems integration capability, the IBM Corporation recently said it is entering the physical security arena with new consulting, integration and deployment services for digital video surveillance systems running on IP-based networks. Initially, the services will target the government, travel, transportation and retail sectors.

A first security industry partner is Lenel Systems International, the access control and security management technology firm that has been at the leading edge of open architecture standards and protocols.
