E.ON UK Reveals Plans for New Power Station, Urges Government to Clarify Energy Policy.

COVENTRY, England, September 7 /PRNewswire/ -- E.ON UK, the company that runs Powergen, has today (Sept 7) put in an application for government consent to build a new GBP350m gas-fired power station at Drakelow in Derbyshire.

The new Drakelow would be built on the site of the old coal-fired power station and would be a modern CCGT. Rated at 1,220MW, it would produce enough power for around a million homes.

Speaking at the ceremony to mark the re-opening of Killingholme Power Station today, Dr Paul Golby, Chief Executive of E.ON UK, said: "The UK urgently requires major investments such as this as we try and bridge a generation gap that will only get wider as more coal-fired and nuclear power stations close their doors for the last time....
