Nuclear fusion is a top research priority for Europe. (Industry News).(Brief Article)

The European Commission anounced it was investing 1.230 billion Euro dollars to fund nuclear research, reported Environmental News Science, June 17, 2002. Nuclear Fission research will mostly concentrate on management and disposal of radioactive wastes.

European Union (EU) Commissioner Philippe Busquin was quoted to say, "Safe and clean nuclear energy is a priority for sustainable development. It can greatly contribute to meeting Kyoto Treaty requirements. And there is a clear need for EU action to pool together know how and resources in state of the art nuclear research at European level."
