PROJECT OVERVIEW: The local KOREA GAS CORP. (KOGAS) currently acts as the sole importer and wholesaler of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in South Korea, the world's second-largest LNG importer behind Japan. However, the company is now gearing-up to expand into power generation as part of its long-term business development strategy to diversify beyond its traditional energy sourcing role.

As a result, KOGAS is now said to be planning the construction of a gas-fired power plant with an installed generating capacity of at least 1,000 Mw. The planned power station, of undisclosed cost, would be sited at the company's LNG storage base in Incheon, South Korea.
