PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local state-owned NATIONAL REFINERY LTD. currently operates a petroleum refining and petrochemical complex in Karachi, Pakistan, that has an installed production capacity of 46,300 barrels per day (b/d). The company also currently produces some 180,000 metric tons per year (mt/y) of lubricant oil.

Oil prices have been bullish since April last year while a shortage of global refining capacity has pushed up refining margins. As a result, the company is now planning to expand its lubricant oil production output by some 15,000 mt/y. The upgrade project, of undisclosed cost, is scheduled for completion by September 2005.
