TAIWAN: Construction plans for proposed $1,250,000,000 ethylene production capacity expansion project, CHINESE PETROLEUM CORP. (CPC) [Taiwan] - Order #: 104604.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

As a result of several planned turnarounds Taiwan's shortage of ethylene has been forecasted to reach 425,000 metric tons per year (mt/y). Consequently, the Taiwan COUNCIL FOR ECONOMIC PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT recently approved a 6-year ethylene production capacity expansion project proposed by the local CHINESE PETROLEUM CORP. (CPC).

Construction plans under consideration call for expanding CPC's No.3 cracker at Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In so doing, ethylene production capacity is expected to be increased from 230,000 mt/y up to 1 million mt/y.

The cost to complete the upgrade project has been pegged at $1,250,000,000.
