PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA (SAIL) is now involved in a big expansion plan that is aimed at increasing its production capacity to 20 million tons per year of steel by 2011/12. As a result, SAIL recently initiated a dialogue with its coal-mining subsidiary, BHARAT COKING COAL LTD. (BCCL), regarding the establishment of a joint venture company for developing coking coalmines.

Although the size of the planned investment has not yet been revealed it is nevertheless known that the would-be venture would be interested in mining at least one million tons per year of coking coal.
