PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The Pakistani government is trying to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix and is thus making efforts for indigenous explorations and production apart from considering gas import options from Iran, Turkmenistan and Qatar. In so doing, the government is aiming to bridge the supply/demand gap of oil and gas.

It is thus that the local SUI NORTHERN GAS PIPELINES LTD. (SNGPL) intends to use the coal of nearby sources for gasification as availability of gas from fields is declining with the passage of time. The SUI gas reserves, for that matter, as well as other major fields are expected to be exhausted in the next 5 to 10 years. Hence, there is an urgent need to tap new avenues of gas availability.
