PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. LTD. (SEC) is currently gearing-up to build new memory chip lines at its domestic plant. The new lines are intended to enable undertaking research and development on dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and flash memory chips as well as producing masks for semiconductors.

The cost to complete the project has been pegged at $400,000,000.

SEC employs a total staff of about 113,600 in 6 facilities in South Korea. The company is considered to be one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the country as well as the world's biggest chipmaker. Its major products include all kinds of home appliances from color televisions, to telecommunications equipment and semiconductors.
