PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Germany-based SGL CARBON AG is currently gearing-up to begin building a carbon and graphite hub in Malaysia by the end of 2006. The company, for that matter, anticipates a total investment ranging between $190,000,000 to $255,000,000 over several years.

The first step calls for the construction of a 30,000 tons per year (t/y) graphite electrodes plant at an estimated cost of $65,000,000 which is included in its already communicated capital expenditure program that will extend from 2006 to 2008. The start-up of the first production stages is scheduled to begin in late 2008. This will be the first new construction of a graphite electrode production plant in 25 years by one of the industry's leading manufacturers.
