PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local ORIENTAL PETROCHEMICALS CO. (OPC) currently operates a polypropylene (PP) plant on the Gulf of Suez that has an installed production capacity of 160,000 tons per year. And, OPC is soon expected to award a construction contract to Japan-based TOYO ENGINEERING CORP. (TEC) that will enable the doubling of production output.

In addition, the project will involve adding capacity to produce small quantities of impact co-polymers. The new facility is reportedly being developed to accommodate new propylene feedstock that will be coming from a planned propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit that will be developed by OPC in joint venture with the EGYPTIAN PETROCHEMICALS CO. (ECHEM) and the NATIONAL INVESTMENT BANK (NIB)
