PROJECT OVERVIEW:

A Taiwanese joint venture led by CHINESE PETROLEUM CORP. (CPC) is currently gearing-up to build what is claimed to be the world's biggest petrochemical complex in the UAE. The other companies involved in the project include USI CORP., TAIWAN POLYPROPYLENE CO., LTD., GRAND PACIFIC PETROCHEMICAL CORP. , TAITA CHEMICAL CO. LTD. and HO TUNG CHEMICAL CORP.

Construction plans under consideration call for building a naphtha cracker with an installed production capacity of 1.3 million tons per year (t/y) of ethylene. The complex will also include plants to produce: - 400,000 to 500,000 t/y of butadiene; - 900,000 t/y of propylene; - 900,000 t/y of polyethylene among other products.
