PROJECT OVERVIEW

The local OAO ROSNEFT OIL CO. is currently considering the construction of a new petrochemical complex at the Komsomolsky oil refinery in Russia's Far East. According to Stepan Zemlyuk, ROSNEFT Vice-President, this is an ideal variant for producing products that are in high demand on foreign markets.

The Komsomolsky oil refinery was built in 1942 to refine oil produced in Sakhalin and East Siberia. The plant has a current installed production capacity of 120,493 barrels per day (b/d) and expansion plans envision increasing output up to 140,575 b/d by 2007. In addition, petrochemical production plans call for installing a plant to produce propylene, ethylene and benzyl.
