PROJECT OVERVIEW

Russia, second only to Saudi Arabia as an oil exporter, produces about 9.5 million barrels per day (b/d) and exports about 5 million b/d of crude and 100 million tons of refined products. Nevertheless, the Russian government has called on the country's oil firms to build refineries on the Baltic Sea and the Pacific in order to boost domestic oil processing and cut crude oil exports.

Primorsk is presently considered to be Russia's largest crude export outlet. As a result, the local OAO LUKOIL is currently said to be considering the construction of a new refinery at the site.
