IFC to Develop Fuel Cell for Hyundai SUV.(International Fuel Cell, Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle)(Brief Article)

Korean automaker Hyundai has signed an agreement with International Fuel Cell (IFC) on the development of a fuel cell propulsion system for a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) demonstration.

"We expect to unveil the preliminary results of this collaborative agreement by the end of the first quarter of next year," said Hyundai American Technical Center official Young-Woo Kim. "We will remove the internal combustion engine from our new Santa Fe [SUV] and replace it with a fuel cell system from International Fuel Cells."

IFC will initially develop two prototype 75-kilowatt fuel cell systems for the Santa Fe SUV, although the agreement allows for two more in the future.
