DaimlerChrysler to Deliver FC Buses Early.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

DaimlerChrysler recently announced plans to deliver fuel cell-powered transit buses in two years and fuel cell (FC)-powered cars in four years. During the recent World Engineers Day in Hanover, Germany, DaimlerChrysler chairman and CEO Juergen Schrempp said the company hopes to be the first automobile manufacturer to sell fuel cell-powered vehicles.

"In just two years, DaimlerChrysler will be the first worldwide automaker to bring fuel cell vehicles to the market," the company said in a statement.

The company will invest nearly $1 billion in fuel cell vehicle research and development (R&D) by 2004. The R&D effort will be conducted by XCELLSIS Fuel Cell Engines, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler that is co-owned by Ford Motor Company and Ballard Power...
