DOE Announces New Fuel Cell System.(Interview)

Department of Energy (DOE) secretary Bill Richardson recently announced that a partnership program between International Fuel Cells (IFC) and the DOE has successfully developed a gasoline-powered fuel cell powerful enough to operate an automobile. Richardson also said that further development of the technology will eventually allow consumers to refuel the new fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) at a normal gas station.
"The successful operation of this fuel cell system on gasoline clearly demonstrates the viability of fuel cell power systems for automobiles using readily available gasoline," said Richardson. "This development is part of the government-industry effort to triple the mileage of conventional automobiles."
