DaimlerChrysler, Mazda Prepare for FCV Tests.(Premacy FC-EV and NECAR 5 fuel cell vehicles)(Brief Article)

DaimlerChrysler and Mazda Motor Corporation recently announced plans to begin trial runs of their fuel cell-powered vehicles on Japan's roads. Mazda will test is Premacy FC-EV, while DaimlerChrysler will test-run its NECAR 5 fuel cell vehicle (FCV).

The automakers will perform test-runs of the prototype FCVs in Tokyo, Yokohama and Hiroshima. Researchers will collect data on fuel economy, emissions levels and safety.

The FCVs will be powered by methanol-reformer fuel cell systems and an electric motor. The automakers said the FCVs will emit 30 percent less carbon dioxide (CO2) than conventional cars powered by internal combustion engines.
