New York Times Article Evaluates Three HEVs.(Brief Article)

An article in the New York Times recently compared the performance and fuel economy of three commercially available hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) on an identical 28-mile test loop. Article author Cheryl Jensen said the test loop included "five miles of highway driving," as well as "urban stopping and going...[such as] errands at the drugstore, trips to the automated teller machine, dropoffs at the library."

The author drove the three HEVs -- the Honda Civic HEV, the Honda Insight HEV and the Toyota Prius HEV -- on the "same route and made the same stops" in order to compare the fuel economy of each. Jensen said the Insight achieved 59.2 miles per gallon (mpg) on the 28-mile loop, while the Prius reached 53.5 mpg and the Civic HEV recorded 45 mpg.
