DOT Awards Funding to Develop HEV Flywheel.(WestStart, AFS Trinity Power Corp. funding for hybrid electric vehicles)(Brief Article)

WestStart recently announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) will provide $1 million in funding to AFS Trinity Power Corporation, in partnership with WestStart, to develop a flywheel for energy storage in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). WestStart said the companies will conduct design and engineering work to improve the "robustness and ruggedness" of flywheel motor generator (FMG) technology.
"[HEVs] will play a major role in the automotive and trucking industries over the next 20 to 30 years," said WestStart president John Boesel. "There is plenty of room for improved energy storage."
